This month has flown by, yet at the same time I hear many say it seems years since Christmas! Time can be a strange thing! What is clear, January and February are not the most cheerful times of the year, so it is important that we keep ourselves spiritually alive and thriving at All Saints we hope to play a part in making that possible.
It is true to say that there are not quite as many events as usual in February, but I want to bring your attention to two main events.
Firstly, at our Family Communion on 10th February at 10am we are having the baptism of a baby of a couple who married at our church a few years ago.
As part of the service, I would like to invite those of you who have their baptism candles stored away at home to return to church with their candles and at the end of the service we will light all the candles as a reminder of our baptism. This marks the cumulation of our renewal of baptism vows which took place last month.
If you do not have a baptism candle, or indeed like me never had a baptism candle given to them at their baptism, there is an opportunity to order one by
a) writing your name on the list at the back of church (church is open on Saturday morning from 10am to 11.30am if you are unable to come to a Sunday or Thursday service)
b) leaving £3 cash per candle in an envelope in the church office (letterbox to right of main church hall door). The envelope must be addressed to Barbara Tinson and must obviously include your name. We will give you your candles on arrival at church on the Sunday 10th, or put them aside for you for when you are next in church if you are unable to come on the 10th.
I am sorry I am not doing email or phone orders for baptism candles - the above way is the only way you can order them. Thank you for your understanding. Remembering our baptism is an important thing to do spiritually as it reminds us of God's love for us and his offer of forgiveness and new life in Christ.
Please do order your candle by the end of Sunday 3rd February at the latest.
QUIZ NIGHT
The next event I would like to bring your attention to is the Quiz Night. The poster contains all the information. Again, please come to the church office to buy your tickets - like we did with the fireworks. We know this system works well and we are sorry we are not doing internet or email orders or phone orders.
It is important to note that tables will have a maximum of eight chairs per table, so you are welcome to organise a table of eight people, but we have not put this on the poster as we deliberately don't want to exclude those who are coming on their own or just as a couple. If you do order a ticket on your own or as a couple etc you will be placed on a table that has vacancies.
Here are the full details of the Quiz night
Partnership with churches in Germany.
For many years we have had a partnership with churches in Teltow, near Berlin, and also the Black Forest area of Germany.
We have been invited once again and we are looking for new people to join the partnership as well as our existing circle.
Rev Keith McNicol will be co-ordinating the group out in Germany but I have agreed to manage the bookings and explain to newcomers what is involved before you leave.
The dates are Wednesday 29th May to Sunday 2nd June inclusive of travel. The only costs are the airfare as all accommodation and meals are provided by our hosts.
Do let me (Simon) know if you are interested in coming. We plan to book our flights in early March by which time the EU discussions will hopefully have come to a point of clarity about whether visas will be required and availability of flights etc. My email address is

An Inclusive Church event at St Stephen’s Canterbury Saturday 16th February 2019 Midday to 5 pm
God welcomes us all, whatever our strengths and weaknesses, our abilities and limitations and uses them to advance the Kingdom. Churches are not always so good at this, often unwittingly making people feel excluded. In this study afternoon the experts in this field – people who have various limitations – will share with us their experiences of being included and excluded in church. In this light we will discuss what we can do practically to make our churches more welcoming to all and how we can all benefit from the gifts people with disabilities have to offer. The day will start by sharing a light lunch and end by sharing the Eucharist.
No charge but please book a place by emailing petertoon@aol.com for catering purposes
