June Xtra 2017

Dear all

It was quite a long time ago that I issued the June Xtra so I have updated it with some new events and wording. I hope you find it interesting.

May I assure you of my prayers for our country on this General Election day and express the hope that you are praying too. We have seen a lot to worry us recently with terrorist attacks being the most notable example. Politically there are strong feelings concerning all sorts of areas of our society. Whoever wins, please pray for a more secure and happy country that becomes increasingly at ease with itself and is able to work for the benefit of all.

If you need to meet with me to talk and pray at any point, don't hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes
Simon

ALL SAINTS CHURCHYARD WORKING PARTY
Can you help this Saturday - 10th June? Brush off the stress from following the General Election campaign and come along and help. We will be clearing away some of the weeds in the churchyard and attending to some of the memorials. Please bring a good set of garden gloves and any spare garden tools you have handy and come to the churchyard from about 9.30am onwards.

OUR FAMILY COMMUNION SERVICE
for this month will be this Sunday - Sunday 11th June at 10am
Hope to see you there!
If you are able to come to the service we will be talking about the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity is understanding of God as "Three in one and one in Three" - a mutually indwelling, self-giving, loving, reality.
We as a society need to reflect the attributes and character of the Holy Trinity.
As part of the service I will be inviting those present to discuss the question

"How can we at All Saints better reflect the character of the Holy Trinity, and how can each of us reflect the character of the Holy Trinity in our own lives too?"

That's a big topic so you may want to start thinking about it now!

COMPLINE

On Sunday 18th June at 8pm we have Compline at All Saints - a service lasting about 25 minutes full of spirituality and calm. This month it will be led by Rev Keith McNicol.
Thereafter it will be on the SECOND Sunday of each month at 8pm so please make a note in your diary.

CANON DEREK RUSSELL

We are so blessed to have Canon Derek Russell and Mrs Liz Russell as members of our congregation.
This month marks 60 years since Derek became a priest in the Church of England - an amazing achievement. To celebrate this, Derek will be presiding and preaching at our Thursday 10am Eucharist on 15th June and preaching at our Sunday Sung Holy Communion service on Sunday 18th June at 10am. This will be followed by a drinks reception in the hall to which all are invited.
Our thanks and praise to God on this wonderful occasion.

PRAYER PILGRIMAGE

Please click on poster for full details in large screen format
We are hosting this event on behalf of Churches Together in Whitstable. If you would like to help me lead some of the 90 minutes I would be grateful. There will be quite a lot of people attending who are used to the more extempore informal type of prayer so please come aware that this is likely to appear quite a lot during the 90 minutes. I will try and make it as creative a 90 minutes as I can and would appreciate your input too. Please come and represent All Saints at this event.

ALL SAINTS SUMMER FETE
Please do not miss this special event - full details above. If you can offer help at the fete please contact John Johnson on 01227 262581. Thank you.

PARISH WEEKEND AWAY
23 - 25 March 2018
Judds Folly Hotel, Syndale Park, Near Faversham
The date for our Parish Weekend has been booked so please put this date in your diaries.
This is an opportunity for the WHOLE CHURCH FAMILY to enjoy a time away together. Children very welcome.
The venue has been chosen so travelling time is minimal, lifts can be arranged.
An outline of the programme will be available for you when the time comes to take firm bookings.

BBQs AT THE VICARAGE GARDEN

All Saints Whitstable Church Family BBQ
For members of the All Saints church family and their friends
The date will be as follows
7pm onwards on  Friday 7th July

This is now being financed by the church as a social and outreach project so all we would ask for is your presence and a garden chair. If you want to make a salad (but not a pudding) please let us know. All meat and baps and veggie options will be provided and we do not want donations, but we do ask you to bring your own drink and a garden chair. Please let Simon know if you can come at tillotsons@gmail.com as we will need to know almost exact numbers. If it is raining the event will be cancelled and a message will be put on the main page of the All Saints Whitstable church website.

We would appreciate it if you could bring a garden chair with you too.
If the weather is wet the BBQ will be cancelled. I will email those who have replied by lunch time on the day of the BBQ with a decision if it is one of those days where it might rain or might be ok
Best wishes
Simon and Cathy
