The November Xtra seems especially busy but this is typical of this time of the year. I do hope you enjoy reading about all the events. We have a number of important services coming up and I would appreciate your prayers for them. Thank you
Rev Simon Tillotson

ALL SOULS SERVICE
Also known as Service of Remembrance for the Dearly Departed
Our Annual Service for the Dearly Departed takes place at All Saints on Sunday 5th November at 6.30pm. This is the time we remember those who have passed away, either in the last year or in previous years. There is an opportunity to light a candle in memory of your loved one or loved ones as well. The service lasts about 45 minutes usually.
A list is available at the back of church for you to put names of the departed in but if it is more convenient please can you email me the name of the people you want remembered now to tillotsons@gmail.com. Thank you. It is helpful to know how many in your group will be attending the service so we have enough orders of service, if that is possible.

LINK TO HOPE CHRISTMAS
SHOEBOX APPEAL 2017
Interested in filling a shoebox for a needy
family or elderly person this Christmas?
Link
To Hope
is a Christian, Sussex based charity which, among its different projects, takes
Christmas shoeboxes to the needy in Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria and
Ukraine. It's a wonderful, fun and easy
way to support those who are not as lucky as we are, and an outward expression
of the true meaning of Christmas.
If you would like to do this, please take
an explanatory leaflet from the back of church.
I will need to take the filled boxes to Bromley on Tuesday 7 November,
so would need them to be given to me by Sunday 5 November please. Thank you!

COULD THIS BE YOU?
All Saints is looking for a HEALTH AND SAFETY CO-ORDINATOR to help implement the various
policies that have come into place in the life of the national church in recent
years and ensure our church buildings and grounds are safe places and that our
procedures and practices are correctly followed. It is a voluntary role but
very rewarding and interesting. Full training will be given. Not too onerous or
time consuming. Please speak to the Vicar or Churchwardens for more
information.

NOTICES FROM INTER-CHURCH ORGANISATIONS, OTHER CHURCHES, AND SECULAR ORGANISATIONS
FROM THE DIOCESAN SECRETARY
Many of you will be aware of the upcoming Diocesan Day of Prayer, which is planned for 17/18 November. The Day of Prayer is an exceptional chance for all of us as a diocesan family, both in East Kent and the Channel Islands, to join together in prayer for the renewal of our communities. You are a key partner in this initiative and I would be grateful if you could encourage your community to engage as fully as possible in this special 24 hours of prayer. Everything you need to know is online here - and more resources will become available over the coming weeks (look out for details in the weekly Briefing email).
There are many ways to engage in the Day of Prayer, including a central event in Faversham on Saturday 18th November. If you’d like to come to that event please book Here. Please note: The next scheduled Synod meeting will take place on Saturday 10 March 2018.
I hope that is helpful and please don't hesitate to contact Holly Adams (hadams@diocant.org) - or another member of the team at Diocesan House - if you have any questions about the Day of Prayer.
Kind regards
Julian
FROM THE WHITSTABLE SCEPTICS

We are privileged to have Judith Large as our guest speaker on the subject ‘Rethinking Security: Human Rights in an Illiberal World’
Judith is a Senior Research Fellow at the Conflict Analysis Research Centre, University of Kent, and has worked internationally with civic and community groups, NGO’s, national governments and UN agencies. She brings nearly three decades practical experience in war and transition settings; particularly work for improved linkages between community/local and national levels for violence reduction and just outcomes after armed conflict. Her book Pushback: Sri Lanka’s Dance with Global Governance (Zed Books, 2016) is the product of engagement in Sri Lanka, which raises questions on the current climate of both international security and human rights.
