June Xtra 2015

Dear all

At last - signs that summer is on its way!

Here are a few things of interest (hopefully!) to you for June at All Saints.

For many years our All Saints Garden Party has been a key fixture in the church calendar. The Social Committee have now given it a new name - the All Saints Summer Fete! We hope this name will make it clearer to newcomers what sort of event it is, as "Garden Party" is not a term that is commonly understood in today's society.

Here are the details from Phillip Williams, Chair of the Social Committee

This year’s Summer Event  - the SUMMER FETE - will be held on 27th JUNE from 2-4pm in the Vicarage Garden, and opened by Miss Whitstable
Our aim is to make it a really fun day for all our families and friends (young and old) - at the same time raising funds for the maintenance and running of our Church.
Amongst many varied activities will be  -
Dancing Display by children from Tankerton Dancing Academy
The ever popular background music by Whitstable Brass
Fancy Dress – 3 age groups (pre-school, infant, junior) – open theme, prize for each age group
Children’s activities such as Children’s corner, Lucky Dip, Fishing Game
All Age activities include BOUNCY CASTLE, Splat the Rat, Coconut Shy, competitions etc
Refreshments include Cream Teas, Strawberries, Ice Cream,
Stalls will be selling Cakes, Crafts, Books, Plants

We hope that YOU and YOUR FAMILY will come along and enjoy the fun and meeting others.

OTHER EVENTS

Our Family Communion service will take place as normal on Sunday June 14th at 10am. Adventurers and Xplore takes place on other weeks for children, but the 14th June will have a special All-Age theme suitable for young people as well as adults.

CHURCH BREAKFASTS

We are still looking for volunteers to help with our church breakfasts on the third Sunday of each month. Please let us know if you can help. Please come to our breakfasts. They start at about 8.45am on the third Sunday of each month.

CASE FOR GOD COURSE

I shall be running a course at the Monument Pub for anyone interested in asking questions about the evidence for the existence of God. This is quite a philosophical course and I have chosen the local pub as I believe it will encourage more people to attend - it is a fact that some find it hard to enter a church or church hall in our very secular culture. The course is open to believers, questioners, non-believers who are interested in the spiritual dimension. It will be on Tuesday evenings starting this coming Tuesday at 7.30pm. We shall be using the back room of the pub
Full details can be found by clicking here but please email me at tillotsons@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

CURSILLO
A reminder to all Cursillistas at All Saints that we are hosting the special Ultreya service this Saturday 30th May at 12 noon followed by a Bring and Share picnic. It would be good to see a good turn out from All Saints Cursillistas.

BRING AND SHARE LUNCH
Cathy and I would like to invite you to our first Bring and Share lunch of the summer on Sunday 7th June from 12.15pm at the Vicarage garden. Please bring a plate of food to share with others and a chair. We will have a "pot luck" approach to what food is brought as organising it beforehand is tricky. This is the first of three. Simply come along. No need to let us know you are coming in advance.
NOTE FROM SIMON - If you are no longer able to attend services regularly at All Saints (maybe your children are involved in sports activities on a Sunday) I nonetheless hope you will consider coming to this lunch.  I promise there will be no sense of "where have you been?" if you come along - so please consider coming to this! You are loved and cared for as friends!! (though we will always welcome you warmly back to church when you are able to).

"WHAT IS TO HAVE GOOD DISAGREEMENT?"  - Visiting speak Jayne Ozanne speaks on the issue of real inclusion in the church - looking at issues of sexuality
It is very important to bring a garden chair and a picnic and drink if you are planning to attend. No need to let me know you are coming. Please come along to hear Jayne Ozanne speak....

 CHURCH CONCERT AND SPONSORED WALK
Plans are afoot to host a church concert on 11th July but at the moment we are short of performers. Please email me at tillotsons@gmail.com. We should know if this is viable in the next couple of weeks. It is to raise money for our Church Organ restoration appeal.

Also thank you so much to those who have agreed to sponsor me for the walk I will be undertaking in August from Whitstable to Dover along the coast. This is again to raise money for the Church Organ restoration appeal. If you have not yet sponsored me and would like to please click here.
I should be able to arrange a hard copy sponsorship form in the coming month for those who would prefer to commit by pen rather than online.

SCOUTS - JUMBLE SALE
3rd Whitstable (All Saints) Scout Group will be holding a Jumble Sale in All Saints Church Hall, Church Street, Whitstable, CT5 1PG on Saturday 20th June. Doors open at 2pm and the admission fee is 20p each. Jumble will be accepted at the hall between 9am and 11am on the morning of the sale.

Lots more I could have added ....please email me your wording and any pictures for the July edition by 25th June for any groups you are responsible for.

I would like to remind you all that I am happy to meet and pray for anyone who would appreciate that and we also have a small but committed team of pastoral assistants who would be happy to visit. If anyone would like to train to become a pastoral assistant please let me know.
